A type of alms or tithing, traditionally given to the poor or deserving. It is obligatory for Nasheenians and Chenjans to give 5% of their wealth in the form of zakat. Tirhanis are typically required to give 5-45% on a sliding scale determined by income. This could be through donations to charitable contributions or through contributions made directly to the state for use in social programs. (org. Arabic. The fourth pillar of Islam; almsgiving as an act of worship)
